Nahariya is the place locals and tourists from afar go to for rest and recreation. It is a most serene spot thanks to the rolling ocean waves, the stretch of beaches and the religious and historical sites. A main attraction of the city is Sderot HaGa'aton which crosses the city from east to west. Ga'aton River runs through the center of the boulevard and when it rains, people come out to watch the water flowing towards the city. Another favorite pastime is taking horse-drawn carriage rides as well as riding the tour train from one part of the city to another. Young ones particularly enjoy riding in the two-wagon locomotive replica. The train departs from Sderot HaGa'aton for round trips from the city center to the beach. Another place you can get to when you rent a car from Nahariya is Bielefeld Street where the remains of Byzantine church stand. This is also where the city's historical museum and where there is a botanical and zoological garden and a lovely playground near the beach. Sports lovers will love watching their favorite games at the Olympic size arena. Once on the beach, you can enjoy local cuisine at the restaurants and coffee houses along the beach. There is also an open bathing beach with facilities for roller skating, mini-soccer, basketball and other games nearby.
